Another Union Minister faces arrest; RJD MP held

Patna: Barely a few days after Union Minister Jaiprakash Narain Yadav lost his job following issuing of arrest warrant against him, RJD leader and Union Minister M A A Fatmi on Saturday faced arrest while party MP Devendra Prasad Yadav was held for violation of the model code of conduct.

Superintendent of Police, Darbhanga, O N Bhaskar ordered the arrest of Mr. Fatmi, also the local MP, under section 188 IPC (disobedience to the order duly promulgated by a public servant) after his campaign vehicle was found moving in the town without permission, a day after campaigning ended for the third phase of Bihar Assembly elections.

The vehicle had banners and posters of RJD leaders plastered on it, Mr. Bhaskar told PTI, adding its driver Mehmood Nasim confessed at Lehariasarai police station that the vehicle was owned by Mr. Fatmi.

Meanwhile, RJD Lok Sabha member from Jhanjharpur Devendra Prasad Yadav and two others were arrested for violation of the model code of conduct this evening and booked under the same section of IPC.

Mr. Yadav, a former Union Minister, was found moving around in a convoy of three vehicles, the permit of two of which had expired on Friday, Superintendent of Police, Madhubani, Anupama S Nilekar said. Besides Mr. Yadav, drivers of the two vehicles were also arrested at Sugapatti village.

Permits of the vehicles had expired with the conclusion of campaign for third phase of poll on Friday evening. -- PTI
