JNUSU plans protest march on eve of PM's visit

Staff Reporter

If Friday saw the Jawaharlal Nehru University student community raise the `red' flag over the visit of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Sunday is likely to see some more tension, what with the students' union announcing a protest march on the eve of a visit by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The Prime Minister would be coming to unveil a statue of Jawaharlal Nehru on the campus on Monday.

Expressing their dismay over the Prime Minister's speech at the Oxford University where he had lauded the British Raj for its good governance of the country, JNUSU said: "We feel that Mr. Singh's statement is unfortunate as it gives a certificate to the organised loot of our resources carried put by the British for more than two centuries even as thousands died in our country due to malnutrition and repeated famines."
