Vishnu Sahasranama competition

NEW DELHI: Vishnu Sahasranama Satsangam, Ramakrishnapuram, has been conducting Vishnu Sahasranama recitation competitions for children of different age groups for several years. This year the preliminary round of the competition will be held at Devi Kamakshi Mandir Hall on Aruna Asaf Ali Road at 9-30 a.m. on November 20.

The syllabus for Nursery, LKG and UKG -- any five shlokas; for Class I and II -- any 10 from first 25 shlokas; Class III, IV, V -- any 10 from first 50 shlokas; Class VI, VII, VIII -- any 10 to 15 from 100 shlokas; Class IX, X, XI, XII -- any 10 to 15 from the full text with knowledge of meanings of certain namawalis.

Prizes will be distributed during the Sangam anniversary in February 2006.

Dharna against dengue toll

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Goel organised a dharna in front of Town Hall at Chandni Chowk on Saturday to protest against "lackadaisical approach'' of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Government towards the dengue menace and the mounting death toll.

Expressing unhappiness over the State Government's inability to take any concrete action to fight the disease, Mr. Goel said the total number of dengue cases this year had crossed the 800-mark compared to 439 in the previous year.

Even now, 15 to 20 patients are being admitted to hospitals daily, he added.

Man arrested

NEW DELHI: A 33-year-old man has been arrested by the West Delhi police for allegedly killing an acquaintance at Punjabi Bagh in West Delhi on Friday. According to the police, the accused a resident of JJ colony Madipur, was arrested near his house on Friday.

He had allegedly stabbed 30-year-old Dilip, a resident of the same locality, following a dispute over money. Dilip had died on the spot. Further investigations are on.
