Uncleared containers auctioned off

KOCHI: India Gateway Terminal (IGT), in association with the Container Corporation of India (Concor), has auctioned off 25 old dated, uncleared containers of cargo that have been pending at the terminal since 2003. A press release from IGT said that the cargo comprised mainly steel scrap, slippers and Iranian tea. Response to the auction was good from over 100 bidders in Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore besides from Kerala. Cochin Customs extended cooperation in the process of auctioning off the cargo, the press release added. IGT proposes to conduct such auctions every two months in the future. — Staff Reporter

Halt for train

CHENNAI: Due to persistent demands from rail users, passenger associations and elected representatives of the public, Southern Railway has ordered for stoppage of train nos.0601/0602 Chennai Central - Mangalore - Chennai Central specials at Kannapuram as per the following timings: Chennai Central - Mangalore special (dep) Kannapuram 05.45 a.m. and train no 0602 Mangalore - Central special (dep) Kannapuram 5.50 p.m., according to a railway press release. — Staff Reporter

Train cancelled

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The service of the Kanyakumari-Jammu Tawi Himsagar Express (No.6317) on Friday has been cancelled owing to the non-arrival of pairing train, a release said. — Special Correspondent

Order for frozen semen station

BANGALORE: V.K. Arora, Director of the Central Frozen Semen Production and Training Institute, Hessaraghatta, on Thursday handed over an order to build a state-of-the-art frozen semen station of the centre to the Kerala Livestock Development Board. The order was received by Kerala Minister for Agriculture K.R. Gouri. The station, which is estimated to cost Rs.4.71 crores, will be completed next year. Of the estimated cost of construction, the Union Government has consented to advance Rs.2.5 crores to the Kerala Livestock Development Board. — Staff Reporter

Nursing college allotment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The allotment to the 25 Government seats for the B.Sc Nursing course at the Amala Nagar Amala Nursing College, Thrissur, will, subject to the necessary recognition from the university concerned, be done from 10.30 a.m. onwards on Monday on November 14. This will be done along with the allotment to the Nursing courses announced earlier, at the Mannam Memorial National Club. — Staff Reporter

Bogus seals seized; two held

KOLLAM: The Kottarakara police on Thursday busted a racket run by a gang allegeldly involved in making and selling bogus seals of Government officials and institutions. Two persons, identified as D. Varghese and Joseph, were arrested and remanded. Kottarakara circle inspector Nandanan Pillai, and the sub-inspector Thankaraj, who busted the racket, said several Government office seals were seized from the premises of Varghese at Vijayapuram in Kottayam district. Varghese was engaged in making the seals and Joseph acted as the middleman. — Staff Reporter
