Kaneria and the mystery delivery

Lahore: Even before a ball has been bowled in the series, Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has started mind games against England, saying he has developed a mystery delivery for the English batsmen.

``I have developed a mystery delivery and hope it will confuse the English batsmen,'' said Kaneria, who is tipped to lead Pakistan's spin attack in the three-match series.

``I am a student of the game so I try to learn new things every day and this new delivery is the result of my hard work and learning process,'' said the 24-year-old who has 132 wickets from 28 Tests.

``I know they have faced us before but playing spinners in county cricket and playing them on sub-continent pitches are totally different,'' said Kaneria.

``My role is to take wickets and I am happy that I am fulfilling my role. Now I gear up for England and want to play a lead role in Pakistan's wins,'' he said.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq also acknowledged Kaneria's hard work and progress.

``Kaneria has become our trump card. I hope he will deliver for us in the England series,'' said Inzamam.

No pressure

Kaneria went on to deny that the recall of Mushtaq Ahmed will add pressure on him. ``I think we are different type of bowlers,'' Kaneria said, adding: ``Mushtaq is a very experienced performer and I have learnt from him in the past. We exchange notes. There is no pressure on me because of him.''

The last time Mushtaq played a Test was against South Africa at Faisalabad in October 2003, when he took one wicket while Kaneria finished with four in the drawn match.

The 35-year-old Mushtaq earned a surprise recall after a two-year absence from the Test arena, having taken 80 wickets for English county Sussex. — UNI
