KOLKATA : South Zone notched up its second consecutive win to strengthen its position in Vijay Hazare Trophy under-19 inter-zonal one-day tournament. Playing here at the Jadavpur University Campus ground on Wednesday, South Zone beat West Zone by four wickets. This helped it earn four points and net eight points from two matches in the round robin league fixture. In another match played at the Eden Gardens, North Zone defeated host East Zone by four wickets thereby intensifying the race for the title. North leads the table with nine points, including one bonus point, from two wins and a loss while South, though on eight points, has the advantage of playing a match less compared to the former. South Zone, which beat North by 43 runs on the first day, faced a modest total against West Zone which was bundled out for 204 in 47.5 overs. In the other match, host East managed the lowest total of the tournament so far being dismissed for 134 by North. Brief scores: West Zone 204 runs in 47.5 overs (S. Seikh 44, S. Chitnis 42; A.G. Pradeep two for 32) lost to South Zone 207 for six in 49.2 overs (G. Dhiman 65; Kuldeep Sharma two for 29) by four wickets. East Zone 134 in 45.4 overs (R. Sharma four for 13, S. Kalia three for 20) lost to North Zone 136 for six in 40.2 overs (M. Tehlan 36) by four wickets. Sports Reporter
