BANGALORE: Pakistan's fiercely competitive spirit against India was to the fore on the opening day of the Ravi Kirloskar Trophy played at the Karnataka Golf Association course here. On the opening day, the visiting team led 3-1/2 to 2-1/2. The one-point lead was collected on the 18th hole with Vaqas Ahmed and Tariq Mahmood staging a come-from-behind victory over Indian amateurs Simarjeet Singh and Gaganjeet Bhullar. While Pakistan's `Timmy' Hassan and Syed Bokhari defeated veterans Ashok Malik and Vikramjit Singh leading by three holes on the 16th, the Indian duo of David D'Souza and Amit Luthra was too good for Imran Zubair and Mohammed Saigol getting a six-stroke lead by the 13th. David fired an eagle on the 11th hole. The results: Age 50+: Gangesh Khaitan & Vijay Kumar (Ind) bt Imran Ahmed & Javed Khan (Pak) (3 &2); Taimur Hassan & Syed Bokhari (Pak) bt Ashok Malik & Vikramjit Singh (3&2). Age 40+: Amer Mahmood & Sardar Khan (Pak) bt Ranjit Aggarwal & Ankur Prakash (Ind) (5&4); David D' Souza & Amit Luthra (Ind) bt Imran Zubair & Mohammed Saigol (Pak) (6&5). Amateurs: Manav Das & Chiragh Kumar (Ind) drew with Muhammad Hai & Muhammad Khan (Pak) (All square on 18th); Vaqas Ahmed & Tariq Mahmood (Pak) bt Gaganjeet Bhullar & Simarjeet Singh (Ind) (2up).
