MUMBAI: The spotlight swung back to women's squash in the wake of Joshna Chinappa's selection as Mittal Champions Trust's first beneficiary. The support system planned for young achievers like her is motivation for contemporaries. Shivangi Paranjape rose to the occasion the day after against accomplished Anwesha Reddy, beating the latter 1-9, 9-3, 9-7, 10-8 to gatecrash into the 53rd Senior National Squash Championships semifinal stage at the Bombay Gymkhana glass-back courts on Wednesday. There were no jolts for Joshna, a 9-1, 9-3, 9-4 victor over Harita Omprakash in the women's quarterfinals, the top seed moving ahead in the queue for semifinal slots, alongwith Dr. Deepali Anvekar-Parikh and Surbhi Singh. Vikas Jangra, carrying an injury, conceded after two games in the men's quarterfinal, allowing rival Harinderpal Singh the luxury of a day of recovery for semifinals.
