CHENNAI: Schools and colleges in Chennai will be closed on Monday due to incessant rain. Examinations scheduled by various universities for Monday have been postponed.
A release from Chennai Corporation said that all government and private educational institutions would remain closed for the day.
As most of the government and local body schools had been converted into relief camps for flood victims, declaring a holiday became inevitable, an official said here.
A spokesman for Anna University said four constituent colleges of the university were closed.
The principals of all affiliated colleges in Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts had been asked to postpone the semester practical examinations.
Most of the professional colleges were located in nearby districts. Hence, it would be difficult for students to reach the institutions in time for the practical examinations.
Even if buses were run, flooding in almost all district and interior roads could affect the conduct of the examinations, the spokesman said.
Madras University's public relations officer said the practical tests scheduled for Monday alone had been cancelled.
The new date would be announced later.
A spokesman for SRM Deemed University said the semester examinations for the day would be postponed.
