KARUR: Six persons, in an inebriated condition, were injured when members belonging to two communities clashed after a drunken brawl at Andipalayam near here on Thursday night. The police have registered a case against 21 persons of a particular community for charges, including abusing by community name, even as they charged the injured six for indulging in violence. Sources said K. Ramachandran (27), S. Birla (27), R. Gnanasekaran (22), D. Dakshinamurthy (23), C. Nesamani (18) and R. Murthy (22), all Dalit sand lorry drivers belonging to Kattalai village near here, indulged in a drunken brawl and attacked each other at Andipalayam near here late on Thursday evening. One of them is also reported to have slapped a woman named M. Vijaya, who was nearby and who questioned their behaviour. On seeing this, some Andipalayam villagers got together and thrashed up the six. Except Birla, the five others made good their escape, even after being injured. Late on Thursday night, the five got themselves admitted in the Karur Government Hospital and Murthy filed a complaint against Vijaya's husband, Manoharan, and 20 other Andipalayam villagers belonging to a particular community that they had abused the six by calling them community names and maligned them. The police also took cognisance of the complaint preferred by Vijaya's father-in-law and booked cases against the six for indulging in violence. No one has been arrested so far but police pickets were posted in the area.
