KOLLAM: The 49th State junior athletics meet will be held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here from Friday. Over 1,200 athletes drawn from all the 14 districts are expected to attend the three-day event. The competitions being conducted in three age-groups under-20, under-18 and under-16 are likely to feature several prominent up and coming athletes like P.K. Anoop, C.T. Raji, P.K. Priya, A.P. Alka Chikili, Tiny Mathew, N.P. Vinu, S. Arunjith along with a host of other exiting prospects. In all, competitions are to be held in 92 individual events, besides the 10 relays.The Kerala team for the National junior championship to be held in Chennai, during late November, will be chosen on the basis of the performance in this meet.The Kerala Sports Council president, C. Mohanachandran, will formally inaugurate the event at 4 p.m., though the competitions will get underway at 1 p.m.
