Isolate terrorists

The gruesome terrorist attack that killed Kashmir Minister Ghulam Nabi Lone on Tuesday is tantamount to attacking the people of the State who have reposed their faith in democracy. These cold, ruthless elements will not let India and Pakistan bury the hatchet. It is important for both countries to isolate them.

B.S. Selvakumar,
Vellore, T.N.

The militant attack at a time when heart-rending scenes of the devastating October 8 earthquake are still fresh in the minds of the people reiterates two things.

First, militancy, for whatsoever cause, has no human face and, secondly, it exposes the hollowness of the militants' claim that they are fighting for the people's cause. Instead of helping the people who are trying to rebuild their shattered lives, they seem to be more interested in proving a point to the Indian Army, which believes that the quake must have destroyed many militant establishments.

Ashutosh Pandey,
Varanasi, U.P.

By indulging in the heinous act when the whole State is shell-shocked and is trying to come to terms with the tragedy, the militants have shed all pretensions of humaneness.

The killing of Lone sends the clear message that the so-called jihadis are mercenaries incited by hate and money.

Yugal Joshi,
New Delhi

By gaining entry into a high-security area and achieving the mission of killing a Minister, the terrorists have sent the clear message that earthquakes can shake only buildings and not their resolve. In a scenario where curbing the movement of terrorists and providing relief to the quake-affected have to go on concurrently, New Delhi and Islamabad have to be doubly cautious in their proposed joint operation.

S. Raghavan,
New Delhi
