CPI(M) plans independent Bihar campaign
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat said on Saturday his party would carry out an independent campaign against the Janata Dal (United)-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance in the Bihar Assembly elections. He issued a statement to this effect amid reports of differences between the CPI(M) and partners of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) contesting the elections over a joint campaign.
The statement said the CPI(M) had arrived at a seat adjustment with the UPA partners. While conducting an independent campaign urging people to defeat the JD(U)-BJP alliance and support the CPI(M) candidates, the party would work for the success of the UPA candidates, Mr. Karat said.
