Unfortunate

What would have happened if Mr. Buta Singh had waited a little longer for a stable coalition to emerge? Is it not obvious that either ideologically diverse parties would have shaken hands for the sake of power insulting the people's verdict, or they would have been split to form a constitutionally acceptable formation?

No conscious voter likes to have a government that is opportunistic, formed as a result of post-poll alliance.

After the Bihar elections, no party or coalition had the requisite numbers to form the government. The situation was visibly heading towards large-scale horse-trading. If the Governor had gone ahead and tested the majority on the floor of the House, a hotchpotch government of defectors would have come into existence.

The correct course of action under the circumstances was dissolution of the Assembly to give the people of Bihar their inalienable right to have a government of their choice. But the manner in which the presidential proclamation was rushed through definitely saddles the UPA Government with the charge of impropriety, which it will find hard to live down.

The NDA (BJP-JD-U) was equally responsible for all that happened in Bihar. It brazenly indulged in the hijacking and poaching of MLAs. If it had succeeded in forming a government, at the most it would have postponed the happenings in the State.
