NEW DELHI: The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday reviewed security measures at the Taj Mahal, the Ram Janma Bhoomi at Ayodhya, the Krishna Janma Bhoomi complex at Mathura and the Kashi Vishwanath temple at Varanasi. This was done with the advent of the festival season. The meeting was chaired by Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal and attended by the Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh, Director-General Archaeological Survey of India, Director-Generals of the CRPF and the CISF and senior officials of the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. The security arrangements for these complexes were earlier reviewed in July 2005 at a meeting chaired by the Union Home Secretary and attended by senior officials of the Central and Uttar Pradesh Governments in the wake of the terrorist attack on the Ram Janma Bhoomi-Babri Masjid complex at Ayodhya. During the meeting, it was decided that the entire estimated expenditure of Rs. 19.91 crores on account of security-related construction works and installation of hi-tech surveillance equipment for various complexes as proposed by the State Government should be incurred. Of this, Rs. 16.77 crores will be provided by the Central Government and the remaining amount by the State Government. It was also decided to strengthen the presence of the State and Central police forces.
