LONDON: Nelson Piquet Jr. won both races to give Brazil a flying start in the opening event of the new A1 Grand Prix series at Brands Hatch on Sunday. The Brazilian, son of the three-time Formula 1 World champion, Nelson Piquet Sr., led the 18-lap sprint event from start to finish and then came from behind in the 38-lap feature race, which featured a mandatory pitstop. Australia's Will Power, who led briefly in the feature race, finished 11 seconds behind Piquet with Mexico's Salvador Duran a surprise third. India's Karun Chandhok, who had finished 15th in the sprint event, came to grief in the first lap of the feature race and had to retire. The inaugural A1 GP series resumes at the Eurospeedway Lausitz in Germany on Oct. 8-9. Agencies
