ARANTHANGI: Writers Basketball Club (Chennai) wrote a winning script to lift the Davidar Trophy in the State-level basketball tournament, hosted by the Aranthangi Basketball Club, here on Sunday. Writers beat Armed Police 59-54 in the final league match of the semifinal league. Writers emerged with an all-win record and SAI Hostel (Salem), which beat Railway Cooperative Society BC (Chennai) 70-64 for its second win, finished runner-up. Armed Police came third with a victory over RCS BC. In the women's section, Annamalai University clinched the title with a 46-24 win over Armed Police, its third victory in the four-team league. Armed Police was second. The results (league): Men: Writers 59 (Jeeva 12, Ethiraj 24, Ramkumar 14) bt Armed Police 54 (Bharathi 19, Rajendran 12); SAI Hostel (Salem) 70 (Mohd. Azarudeen 24, Pratheepan 17) bt RCS BC 64 (Pechi 12, Yuvaraj 10, Fazil 10). Women: Annamalai University 46 (Thenmozhi 24, Devikarani 12) bt Armed Police 24 (Praveena 10); Pudukottai WBC 49 bt Phoenix (Thanjavur) 27. Sports Correspondent
