CHENNAI: N. Srinivasan, was unanimously elected president of the All India Chess Federation for a four-year term here on Sunday. Also elected unopposed were D.V. Sundar as secretary and Bharat Singh as treasurer. The General Body of the AICF was convened and elections were conducted by the retired Judge of the Madras High Court Justice A.K. Rajan as neutral observer, as per the directive of the High Court and confirmed by the Supreme Court. Announcing the results Justice Rajan said the six vice presidents elected were Bhaktavachalam (Pondicherry), Dongre (Maharashtra), Pradeep Jain (Haryana), Ralte (Mizoram), Sameer A. Salgaocar (Goa) and Sanjiv Kumar (Bihar). Those elected joint secretaries were F. Anil (Madhya Pradesh), Melwin (Meghalaya), N.K. Mishra (Jharkand), H.K. Tiwari (Punjab), Udayan Kanti Ghosh (Bengal) and Vipnesh Bharadwaj (Chandigarh). Justice Rajan did not wish to say anything beyond the conduct of the elections. "I have been appointed to conduct the elections and I have discharged my duty. I will now give my report to the High Court," he said. Srinivasan said except for the vice presidents post there were no contests. What heartened him was that of the 32 affiliated units, (effectively 25, seven having been disqualified) 21, a good majority, had attended the AGM. "We will now settle down to our work," he said. The new body met after the elections but no major decisions were taken. The seven units which were barred from participating in the AGM as they had not paid the subscription under Rule 2.02 of Affiliation Rules of AICF were Kerala, UP, Chattisgarh, Jammu& Kashmir, Rajasthan, Lakshwadeep and Correspondence Chess Association (Raj).
