Special Correspondent
MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hon. secretary S. Karunakaran Nair on Sunday expressed his displeasure and used strong words while reacting to the manner in which the correspondence between India coach Greg Chappell and BCCI was brought before the public through the media. "I strongly condemn it. Building relationship with the coach stems from confidence. It's a private and confidential mail which has been reproduced verbatim. "This has not happened before and hence the contents of the e-mail from Chappell coming in the public domain has shown the BCCI in poor light. It's disgraceful,'' Nair said from Thiruvananthapuram.
Inquiry
Nair, who has served the BCCI in different capacities in the last 15 years, said he would request the president Ranbir Singh Mahendra to institute an inquiry and ascertain the person who leaked the e-mail to a Kolkata newspaper and also to a cable television channel. "These things should not happen. I am confident the BCCI president will move into action in an appropriate manner and find the person who leaked the e-mail,'' Nair said. Three senior members of the BCCI Mahendra, Nair and Jagmohan Dalmiya are part of the BCCI's Special Committee. The other members are former India captains, S. Venkatraghavan, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri. India's coach Greg Chappell and captain Sourav Ganguly have also been invited to attend the meeting that's supposed to be a brainstorming session to evaluate the performance of the Indian team in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. "We will only discuss the team's performance and suggestions will be put before an appropriate forum of the BCCI for consideration,'' Nair said.
