CHENNAI: Residents in parts of Perambur are sore over the delay by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board in attending to their grievances of frequent power blackout. Localities such as Hyder Garden First, Second, Third Streets and the State Bank Officers Colony are plagued by problems of power failures and voltage fluctuation. Just away from the bustle of the commercial establishments on Perambur High Road, the colony experiences frequent power disturbances, which last between 15 minutes and 45 minutes most of the days. This puts the patients and students into much hardship. "The TNEB officials' efforts at undertaking repair works to mitigate our problems has not paid results," says S. Lokabi, working president, Hyder Garden II Street Extension Welfare Association Civic Exnora. A transformer on State Bank Officers' Colony First Street, which was removed for servicing a few months ago was replaced last week, but the problems persist," says T.K. Sudharsanam, honorary general secretary, State Bank Officers' Colony Residents Welfare Association Civic Exnora. G. Venkateswarulu, another office-bearer of the association says that the EB staff cite one reason or the other whenever they called the fuse-off call office. Apart from announced power cuts for undertaking maintenance work, the area experienced more frequent power cuts than other parts of the city. The residents want the cables replaced and the transformer serviced.
