English hoardings targeted

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The "fill the jails" agitation conducted by the Tamil Protection Movement on Wednesday turned out to be another occasion for damaging two English hoardings on Anna Salai. Though as the protest started, leaders of the Movement exhorted their followers to maintain discipline and conduct themselves peacefully before courting arrest, some workers apparently belonging to the Dalit Panthers climbed on to the poles supporting the hoardings and tore a portion of the hoardings that included one put up by The Hindu. The Pattali Makkal Katchi president, G.K. Mani, and PMK founder S. Ramadoss' aide chased away the miscreants. Mr. Mani expressed regret over the incident.
