AKCE, KCE claim titles

KOVILPATTI: Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering (AKCE), Krishnankovil, and Kamaraj College of Engineering, Virudhunagar, won the over all men and women's championships respectively in the Anna University Zone X three-day athletics meet which concluded here on Saturday.

Title for St. Xavier's

St. Xavier's College, Palayamkottai, beat Scott Christian College, Nagercoil, 73-61 for the title in the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate basketball tournament on Saturday.

The results: Final: St. Xavier's College 73 (Socretes 22, Deepan 20) bt Scott Christian Nagercoil 61 (Dixon 23, Antony 20).

Semifinals: St. Xavier's College 60 bt VOC College, Tuticorin 50; Scott Christian bt MDT Hindu College, Tirunelveli 69-44.

KLN CE wins title

KLN College of Engineering, Pottapalayam, bt Thiagarajar College of Engineering 3-0 for the title in the Anna University Zone IX women's table tennis tournament conducted by Pandyan Saraswathy Yadava Engineering College on Saturday.

The results: Final: KLN College of Engg bt TCE 3-0 (Hema Priya bt Nasarath 11-8, 5-11, 11-3, 11-9; Ramalakshmi bt Gayathiri Srinivasan 11-7, 4-11, 11-7; Anjana bt Kanthnu 11-2, 12-10, 11-7).

Third place match: PSNA College of Engg. bt Pandyan Saraswathy Yadava Engg. College 3-2. Semifinals: KLN CE bt PSNA 3-0; TCE bt PSYEC 3-2.

Double for Senthil, Rajini

Senthil Nathan of Team Yamaha and K. Rajini of Team TVS sparkled on a wet day scoring a double win each in their respective categories in the fourth leg of the UCAL Rolon national racing championship for two wheelers at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near Coimbatore, on Sunday.

The day also saw the young Ashwin Sunder coming up with a spirited show. The Chennai lad twice recorded the fastest lap timing and also managed to beat the challenge of his far superior rivals for the top spot in the second race of the Group D four-stroke 111 to 160cc class.

Akkineni too good: Aditya Akkineni of Hyderabad continued with his roaring form scoring his fourth successive win in the senior section of the JK Tyre Mojo Max karting challenge. The penultimate leg also saw Ajay Kini and Parth Ghorpade finishing the day on a happy note clinching their maiden win in the junior and Rotax mini max categories.
