Indoor corporate tournament gets underway

HYDERABAD: The M.L. Jaisimha 365 Academy will organise the first-ever indoor corporate cricket tournament, for the M.L. Jaisimha Field Turf Cup, at its Bantia Estate premises on Sikh Road from August 13. The event is being sponsored by Field Turf, a world leader in artificial turf.

At an informal press briefing, Vidyuth Jaisimha said the day-night tournament would be played on weekends on a league-cum-knockout format. Each team would comprise eight members and each match would have one batting and one bowling innings per team, each lasting 16 overs.

Each pair would bat for four overs and retire and every player, including the wicket-keeper, must bowl two overs.

For every batsman's dismissal, five runs would be deducted from the team's total. Hitting into the scoring zones would fetch bonus runs.

The winning squad would be richer by Rs. 10,000 and the runner-up by Rs. 7,000. In addition to man-of-the-match awards, prizes are also in store for man-of-the-tournament, best batsman and best bowler.

The groupings:

`A': Satyam Computers, NMDC, Karvy, ITC-IBD and Sreemitra Developers.

`B': HSBC-EDPI, Hutch, Wipro-GE, Seagram and VST Industries.
