Keeping the umpires on their toes

Hyderabad: A two-day workshop-cum-seminar for all BCCI panel umpires belonging to South Zone will be held at the Visaka international cricket stadium at Uppal here on August 23 and 24.

The seminar, compulsory for all BCCI panel umpires, is aimed at preparing them for the season ahead and to keep them abreast of the changes in playing conditions in one-day matches as recommended by the ICC.

The BCCI has also included physical fitness training and psychology sessions, and expects the umpires to be actively involved in the sessions.

This is the first time that the BCCI has asked the HCA to conduct the programme and about 40 to 45 umpires from the South are expected to participate.

The BCCI has appointed six umpires to conduct the seminar — R.S. Rathore, Kinjal Suratwala, B.P. Ram, A.V. Jayaprakash, K. Hariharan and I. Sivaram.

D.S. Chalapathi, Vice-President and Member (South Zone) of the umpires sub-committee of BCCI, will be the co-ordinator. — Special Correspondent
