Bangalore: The National Cricket Academy (NCA) opened its campaign on a winning note in the KSCA all-India invitation MRF trophy tournament. In its opening match, NCA registered a ten-wicket victory over ONGC with a day to spare at the RSI Ground here on Friday. Off-spinner Rohit Sharma bagged five wickets (6-1-13-5) and set up NCA's victory as he spun ONGC out for 90 in 28 overs. ONGC opener Gautam Gambhir provided the lone cheer with his 31 despite the fall of wickets around him but once he slashed Rohit straight to point, NCA tightened its grip. Rohit scythed through the middle-order and with the tail failing to wag, NCA was set a meagre target to chase in the stipulated 100 overs. NCA openers Shikar Dhawan (39 not out) and S.A. Asnodkar (37 not out) struck the winning runs in 17.3 overs and helped their team gain two points while ONGC drew a blank. In another match, Deep Dasgupta (152) and Subhomoy Das (121) slammed centuries to guide Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to 476 for seven in the stipulated 100-over innings against Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The scores: At RSI Ground: ONGC 90 in 28 overs (Rohit Sharma five for 13) lost to NCA 91 for no loss in 17.3 overs. At Chinnaswamy Stadium: CAB 476 for seven in 100 overs (Deep Dasgupta 152, Subhomoy Das 121, A. Majumdar 90, K.H. Mondal 51) vs IOC. At JIRS Ground: Indian Airlines 301 in 72.1 overs (Manvinder Bisla 113, R.R. Parida 83, Irfan Pathan Sr. five for 78) vs Baroda 71 for one in 19 overs. At IAF Ground: Air-India 296 in 89.5 overs (S. Shinde 91, Niraj Patel 65, M. Dalvi 48) vs Canara Bank 28 for one in six overs.
