PALANI: Top seed and International Master R. Balasubramanian of ICF, Chennai, and J. Ramakrishna of SCR, Secunderabad, tied for the top honours with nine points each in the V.P.M. Trust Fide-rated chess tournament conducted by Jyothi Chess Academy here on Friday. But Balasubramanian won the title on progressive score and bagged a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Ramakrishna had to be content with the second spot and took home Rs. 8,000. Special prizes were awarded to the following four, who completed their Fide-rating norms in this tournament: D. Karishama, P. Krishnan (both from Chennai), B.R. Lalith Kumar (Hosur), S. Narendrakumar (Coimbatore). Final placings (rated): 1-2: R. Balasubramanian (Che), J. Ramakrishna (S.C.R) 9 pts; 3-4: Ram S. Krishnan (Che), N. Surendran (TVLR) 8.5; 5-8: P. Saravana Krishnan (Kanchi), N. Lokesh (Hosur), M. Paramasviam (VNR), Biswajit Chatterjee (Jharkhand) 8; 9-14: Amit KR. Medda (Jhar), K. Chakravarthi (Salem), A. Kumar (A.P), T.S. Pradeep (Kar), Baisakthidas (Jhar), R.A. Pradeep Kumar (Che) 7-5; 15. M.P. Ajith (Kar) 7.
