Letters to the Editor
The fact that no newspaper has published photographs showing the mob attacking the police is unfair. While the anger against the police is understandable the factors that led to the police losing their cool cannot be ignored either. While the police action is inexcusable, the workers' behaviour too cannot be condoned.
J.S. Acharya,
At the best of times, controlling a crowd is a problem for the police. If they are mild they are accused of being weak and inefficient. On the other hand, any show of strength to disperse a crowd draws howls of protests. The police, who are under tremendous pressure to deliver in such situations, can occasionally lose their heads.
D.B.N. Murthy,
Whenever there is violence during the strikes, bandhs, etc., organised by political parties and trade unions, the blame is conveniently put on anti-social elements. While this may be true to some extent, it is also true that there are people with a violent mindset among the participants too. And it is sad that such members get overt/covert encouragement instead of a rebuke from their leaders.
K.N. Ramani,
The Honda workers' grievances might be genuine but that does not give them the right to damage public property and attack public servants. Why can they not pursue the democratic route to get justice? Such law-breaking demonstrations have become routine. The Gurgaon episode is only an example.
T.Karthikeyan,
