Nod for power projects in Lakshadweep
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
Union Minister of Power P.M. Sayeed on Thursday approved a Rs. 17.82 crore project for augmenting the power generating capacity in Lakshadweep by replacing the 33 old and inefficient diesel generating sets with fuel-efficient modern diesel generating sets.
This is aimed at not only meeting the future energy requirements of the island but also seeks to facilitate the supply of clean water through a reverse osmosis plant. Also, it will help in the development of a modern sewer system and the establishment of a jetty.
Announcing this at a press conference, Mr. Sayeed said the National Thermal Power Corporation that has been mandated to execute the project on a deposit work basis on actual cost within a period of 12 months would implement the project.
