NEW DELHI: The fourth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) will be held in Hyderabad from January 7-9, Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs Jagdish Tytler said here on Wednesday. Of the several venues considered, Hyderabad was selected for its superior infrastructure. President A.P.J. Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would participate in the Overseas Indian Day celebrations. A session on bringing investment into India would be a special feature. "The Government of India has decided to take PBD from one State to another year after year and use the PBD platform to showcase the achievements of that State and the region as well as project the strengths of the Indian federation and highlight unity in diversity." The event was held in Mumbai this year.
OIC registration
The Minister said registration of Overseas Indian Citizens (OICs) was expected to begin in September when new forms and OIC cards were despatched to Indian missions and posts abroad. (This facility will be available in some 70 identified countries). Registration could begin only after a Home Ministry notification, giving effect to the contents of the recent Presidential ordinance, was issued.
