Two-member Mumbai gang held for robbery bid
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
The Flower Bazaar police arrested a two-member gang from Mumbai on charges of attempting to rob a person in the George Town area on Tuesday. Those arrested were identified as Nafizul Hussain (23) and Abdul Satthar (22) of Kurla, Mumbai.
Another robbery case
Police said the gang was already involved in a robbery case in which Bharathi Bhavani (30), a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) service centre owner, while walking along Rasappa Chetty Street, was robbed of Rs 15,000.
On Tuesday, the gang members allegedly attempted to loot S. Rupesh, a finance company employee on Devaraja Mudali Street, of his jewellery and cash.
When he raised an alarm, a patrol vehicle, which was passing through the stretch, arrested the offenders.
Interrogation with them revealed that a larger gang was operating from Mumbai.
Following this, a special party had gone to Mumbai to arrest other members of the gang, police said.
