Government silent on staff demands: DMK

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer, Arcot N. Veerasamy, on Tuesday accused the Jayalalithaa Government of remaining silent on the employees' demand of parity with Central Government staff on dearness allowance.

The three per cent dearness allowance, announced by the Government, was being played up as a great concession for the employees.

Noting that the Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintenance Act was withdrawn, he said everyone was aware why this had been done. He hoped the Government would lift the freeze on recruitment to Government departments and reinstate the road mazdoors, because the Assembly elections were near.
