Company secretaries want global recognition

Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The International Federation of Company Secretaries has called for an action plan to create worldwide recognition and visibility of the profession and to impress on the World Trade Organisation the need for including it under a separate head in the WTO services.

The federation said that with one-third of the global population of company secretaries residing in the subcontinent it was conscious of its responsibility for globalisation of the profession, said a release issued by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, which organised a meeting in Karachi in Pakistan on Saturday. The ICSI president said students of both countries must exchange syllabi, have exchange programmes and participate in students' conferences. "We need to start research in the field of good corporate governance and to strengthen corporate legal and regulatory framework in countries that need assistance in the matter."
