I.M. Vijayan, footballer-turned-actor, has now donned the role of a politician. He recently became a member of the National Congress (Indira) (NC(I) floated by the former Chief Minister K. Karunkaran and his son, K. Muraleedharan.
Vijayan was welcomed into the NC(I) fold at a much-hyped ceremony attended by senior party leaders, including V. Balaram. The grapevine has it that the NC(I) is wooing several more high- profile figures, including film stars, television artistes, athletes and writers. The move is aimed at giving more credibility and legitimacy to the newly floated political outfit.
The party could also use its newly acquired assets among the glitterati against the United Democratic Front (UDF) during the coming elections.
The former Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar is reportedly very close to the rank and file of the NC(I).
