BANGALORE: A 32-year-old woman, who was allegedly tortured by her husband, killed her two daughters and then committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Girinagar police station limits early on Saturday. The police gave the woman's name as Kalaiveni and that of her daughters as Pooja (10) and Monisha (6). Kalaiveni's husband, Narayanaswamy, works as a mechanic at the Wheel and Axle plant. The couple were residents of Dattatreyanagar in 3rd Stage, Banashankari. The police said Kalaiveni had strangled Pooja with a sari and smothered Monisha with a pillow. Around 5.15 a.m. Kalaiveni telephoned her father, Krishna Murthy, a resident of Teachers' Colony in 2nd Stage, Banashankari, and told him that she had killed her daughters and that she was about to commit suicide. Krishna Murthy advised her not to do so and rushed to her house. By the time he was there Kalaiveni had ended her life, the police said. Narayanswamy, who was on night shift on Friday, returned home around 7 a.m., the police said. According to the police, Kalaiveni left a note saying that she was taking the extreme step as she was unable to bear the torture from her husband. She requested the police to initiate stern action against him, a police official said. He said Kalaiveni had planned to lodge a complaint against her husband, but her parents had dissuaded her hoping that things would improve. The Girinagar police have registered a case.
