Karthik triumphs

BANGALORE: C.P. Karthik kept his slate clean against archrival Gautham Gupta, scoring a 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 11-3 victory in the junior boys' singles final of the Malleswaram Association's Platinum Jubilee State ranking table tennis championship here on Saturday. Karthik, had earlier beaten Gupta in the Canara Union championship final last month and it was his third title of the season.

S.R. Nikita also claimed her third title, defeating Shamika Desai in a hard-fought junior girls' final at 11-8, 11-7, 2-11, 11-7, 4-11, 7-11, 11-7.

A.R. Navneet also bagged his third title with a 11-6, 13-11, 11-8 win over Akhil Athresh.

The results (all finals):

Junior boys: C.P. Karthik bt Gautham Gupta 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 11-3.

Junior girls: S.R. Nikita bt Shamkia Desai 11-8, 11-7, 2-11, 11-7, 4-11, 7-11, 11-7.

Sub-junior boys: A.R. Navneet bt Akhil Athresh 11-6, 13-11, 11-8.

Sub-junior girls: R. Madhuri bt Sahana 12-10, 2-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8. — Special Correspondent
