Big win for Canara Bank

BANGALORE: Canara Bank and Karnataka State Police scored emphatic victories in the State Super Division league hockey tournament here on Saturday.

Canara Bank beat Pioneer Corps Training Centre with a tennis score at 6-3 with Somanna (17th and 48th), Apanna (28th), John Verghese (49th), KP Dinesh (53rd) and Kushalappa (65th) pumping in goals at will.

Pioneer Corps Training Centre had nine penalty corners but could only convert two of them with Sunil Ekka scoring in the 47th and Anthony Hemron (62nd) being the scorers. S Munda scored between Ekka's and Hemron's effort in the 60th minute for PCTC.

Karnataka State Police rode on Manjunath Yadav's quintuplet to score a 5-1 win over Centre of Excellence. Rajinder Yadav scored CoE's only goal.

In an earlier match, Sports Authority of India and Madras Engineering Group played out a 1-1 draw.

Mayur Subbaiah scored first for SAI off a corner in the 42nd minute and Thiru brought up the equaliser for MEG also off a penalty corner in the 57th minute. — Special Correspondent
