Musical treat

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Noted Carnatic vocalists will participate in the 30th Sree Neelakanta Sivan Sangeetha Aradhana to be held at the Sree Sathya Vageeswara Swami Japa Dhyana Bhajana Mandapam at Karamana from July 29 to August 3.

The saint composer Neelakanta Sivan spent his last days in penance on the banks of the river Karamana. He has to his credit a number of compositions but the posterity has only a repertoire of 5,000 works. A music festival is organised in his honour every year.

Eminent musicians, including Thiruvizha Jayasankar, Sanjay Subramanyan, Neyveli Sandanagopalan, Kudamaloor Janardhanan, Guruvayoor Dorai and Chennai G. Srikanth will participate in the festival. Noted musicologist and secretary of the Music Academy, Chennai, will inaugurate the festival. Chairman of the Chembai Memorial Trust P. Gopalaraman will preside over the programme. Thiruvizha Jayasankar will render the inaugural nadaswaram concert on July 29. He will be accompanied by S.R. Mahadeva Sarma (violin), Nachil Arul (mridangam) and Trivandrum Karthikeyan (ghatom). Gayathri Devi will present a 90-minute concert on July 30. This will be followed by another concert by Sanjay Subramanyam. G. Ashok will present a concert at 10 a.m. on the third day.
