HYDERABAD: Failing to get any response from the Government on their pending demands, the AP Junior Doctors Association (APJUDA) is all set to boycott duties from Saturday noon in all Government teaching hospitals. The junior doctors will attend regular duties at 8 a.m. tomorrow and troop out of the hospitals at noon. They will hold demonstrations signalling the launch of strike. "We are not going to call off the strike unless all our genuine demands are conceded," the APJUDA president, B. R. Suresh Babu told The Hindu from Vijayawada on Friday night. The Principal Secretary (Health), I. V. Subba Rao said all arrangements had been made to overcome the inconvenience likely to be caused to the patients due to the strike. The Government is planning to requisition the services of doctors from the AP Vaidya Vidhan Parishad and the Government medical colleges. Contingency plans had been prepared and the instructions issued during last month's strike would be applicable this time also, he added. The Government would file its counter before the High Court on Monday, he said.
Immediate cause?
The junior doctors who had given an undertaking to the High Court to call off their strike from June 30 changed the mode of agitation by launching overtime protest but suddenly announced agitation from Saturday. They argued that the Government had not responded to the Court directive to look into their grievances. But, the immediate cause for the strike appears to be announcement of the date for counselling for MBBS admissions from July 17.
