HYDERABAD: The Government has decided not to invite the junior doctors for fresh talks in the wake of their threat to go on indefinite strike from Saturday. The Government has blamed the newly constituted Joint Action Committee (JAC) for not respecting the directions of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. In response to a petition filed in the High Court by the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Associations (APJUDA), the Government was given time till July 11 to file its counter. "Even before the Government has filed its counter, is it proper on their part to launch another strike from Saturday?" questioned a senior official of the Health Department. "They are complicating the whole issue by adopting a tough posture," he added. "They have not bothered to serve us a notice for the fresh strike," the official pointed out. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who is on a tour of Israel, was informed about the development. Dr. Reddy reportedly told officials that the Government could do little as the matter was before the High Court. Meanwhile, the APJUDA leaders who had spearheaded the weeklong strike last month left Hyderabad to hold discussions with the junior doctors in all Government medical colleges. Sources said the APJUDA leaders were hesitant to lead the agitation as they were fighting a case in the High Court. Instead, they decided to guide the JAC comprising house surgeons and PG students. The move was to avoid legal implication and possible action from the High Court.
