TARGET PRACTICE: Girl cadets of the National Cadets Corps undergo firing practice at the NCC regional camp at NSS College, Pandalam, in Pathanamthitta district on Wednesday.
PATHANAMTHITTA: A total of 550 cadets from 80 colleges and schools are participating in the two-day regional camp of the National Cadets Corps, Kollam Group, which is now under way at the NSS College, Pandalam.
According to Lt. Col. K.M.Santhosh, Commanding Officer, the boys and girls are being trained in firing, drill, marching orders, adventure training and map reading, besides classes on various socially relevant topics by experts at the camp, which began on June 30.
The cadets were given training in the use of Self-Loading Rifle, Light Machine Gun, .22 Rifle and 303 Rifle at the camp.
Special training to the cadets in relief operations during natural calamities was another important activity at the camp, says Lt S.Gopalakrishnan who is in charge of the NCC at the college. He said that the girl cadets were given training in nursing, first-aid and primary healthcare at the camp.
According to Mr. Santhosh, lectures on sanitation and hygiene, energy conservation, life saving capsules and traffic rules have also been organised at the 12-day camp, which will come to a close on July 11.
The cadets to represent the State in the Army camp that begins in New Delhi on July 18 will be selected from among those who attend the ongoing camp. The training of boys and girls are being supervised by Lt. Col. P.S.Chauhan and Lt. Col. L.B.Khatri.
Mr. Santhosh said that the 12-day camp would instil self-confidence in the cadets, besides their developing their overall personality.
