PF adalat in Gulbarga

HYDERABAD: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is organising "Bhavishya Nidhi adalat" on July 11 in Gulbarga for on the spot redressal of grievances of the members of EPF scheme, 1952. The Assistant PF Commissioner, SRO, Gulbarga, M. Raghuram, in a press note issued here on Thursday said the adalat will be conducted between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the sub-regional office in Gulbarga. Five killed in accident

HASSAN: Five members of a family, including a child, were killed and two others were injured seriously when a Maruti van by which they were travelling collided with a lorry on the Bangalore-Honnavara road near Banavara town of Arsikere taluk at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

The police said the van was on its way to Shimoga and the lorry was coming from Arsikere near Banavara. — Staff Correspondent

Dammodar Suvarna mourned

BANGALORE: The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has condoled the death of the former MLA, Damodar Suvarna. Praising the contribution of Mr. Suvarna in the development of the erstwhile-undivided Dakshina Kannada district, Mr. Dharam Singh said that his death is a great loss for the State. — Staff Reporter

Last date for UAS admissions

Bangalore: The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, has clarified that the last date for issuing application booklets for undergraduate courses for the academic year 2005-06 has been extended up till 4 p.m. on July 4 and not July 7. The last date for submitting the completed application forms remains July 4 (till 4 p.m.) — Special Correspondent

Postgraduate research centre established

GULBARGA: The Sidhartha Law College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur in Andhra Pradesh to establish Post-Graduate Research Centre under the distance education programme from this academic year. Principal of the Siddartha Law College, V.C. Matpathi, in a press release said here on Thursday that this is the first time a PG research centre, under the distance education programme in association with an outside university, is being established in the region. — Special Correspondent

Train services extended

HUBLI: The South Western Railway has extended the service of Yeshwantpur-Ahmedabad-Yeshwantpur summer specials (Train numbers 0673/ 0674) for another month, according to a release. Accordingly, train number 0673 will leave Yeshwantpur on July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 and train number 0674 will leave Ahmedabad on July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3, the release said. According to an earlier order the services of these trains was to end on June 29. — Staff Correspondent


DAVANGERE: Large number of unemployed teachers under the aegis of the State Unemployed Teachers' Union, took out a procession in the city demanding that the Government give priority to candidates who have passed TCH and PUC internship and above 29 years, while recruiting candidates for the teachers' posts in different places in the State. — Staff Correspondent

Two children die of food poisoning

MYSORE: A six-year-old child and a five-month-old infant died of suspected food poisoning in the early hours on Thursday. The family of Jenukurubas in Kattenalawadi of Hunsur taluk was living in dire poverty and used to eke out a living by begging for food. The family, comprising three children, reportedly collected some left over food from a choultry and consumed it last night. However, a portion of which was kept aside was consumed by Shankar (six) and Lakshmi (five months), who took ill and died before they could be rushed to the hospital. The Hunsur police have registered a case. — Special Correspondent

Selva Kumar is new Deputy Commissioner

MYSORE: The outgoing Deputy Commissioner, G. Kumar Naik, handed over charge to Selva Kumar, who will be the new Deputy Commissioner of Mysore district, at a brief function in the city on Thursday. An IAS officer of 1997 batch, Mr. Kumar had earlier worked as Commissioner of the Mysore Corporation in 2002 , and was posted as Deputy Secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms. — Staff Correspondent

IT course for physically challenged

MYSORE: Rotary Club of Mysore West and Paul Harris Vocational Training Institute for the Physically Challenged have invited applications from physically challenged persons for a six-month computer training course.

Bamboo depot gutted

MYSORE: A fire destroyed portions of a bamboo depot belonging to Sri Shivasharana Medara Ketheshwar Industrial Cooperative Society at Bamboo Bazaar on Wednesday night. Though the fire is said to have been caused by an accidental spark, speculation is rife that it was politically motivated as the new Mayor hails from the Medara community. Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames before it could engulf the entire depot. — Special Correspondent

CA Day celebrations

MYSORE: The Mysore Branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is celebrating Chartered Accountants' Day on Friday by hoisting the chartered accountants' flag on the branch premises in Bank Employees Colony. According to a press statement, the Associate Vice-President and head of Infosys, Mysore, Skanthaswamy, will hoist the flag. A cultural programme will be held on Saturday.
