Warm reception for successful TN team

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu contingent, which won the overall honours in the just concluded Federation Cup athletics event in New Delhi, was given a warm reception by the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association, headed by its President W.I. Davaram, here on Sunday.

A good gathering of Athletic officials, athletes and fans were there as the Thirukural Express moved into the Egmore station. The police band was in attendance and banners sprung up as the athletes trooped out. Not all had come but there were enough medallists to shift the focus instantly to the specially built temporary podium, courtesy the Chennai City Police.

A thrilled Mr. Davaram said the results were the outcome of the summer camps held in the state. "The athletes could adapt quickly to the conditions there. This is a good beginning and with camps being held over the state on a regular basis we can looked ahead to better times," he said. Tamil Nadu won six gold, six silver and silver bronze medals. Aside from Mr. Davaram, the other key officials included, among others, the Presidents of the Chennai, Kanchipuram and Cuddalore district units, Arumugham, C. Sylendra Babu and T.K. Rajendran respectively.
