Bomb hoax at

Palika Bazar

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A call claiming that a bomb had been planted at Palika Bazar in Connaught Place led the police to evacuate the premises on Monday evening. However, the call was declared a hoax after no explosives were found.

Around 6-45 p.m., the police received a call claiming that a bomb would explode inside the crowded underground bazaar. Subsequently, a bomb detection and disposal squad was pressed into action and the entire area was combed for over two years. Fire tenders were also stationed outside the complex for prompt action in case of any eventuality.

After no explosives were found, the police were busy tracing the caller.

ASJ's room burgled

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: The room of an Additional Sessions Judge was found burgled at the Tis Hazari court premises on Monday. At least two telephone sets were found missing.

It is suspected that the incident occurred sometime during the intervening night of Sunday-Monday despite the police presence. According to the local police, initial probe revealed that the burglars gained entry into the chamber of the Additional Sessions Judge, S.C. Malik, through its toilet using a pipeline.

It was being suspected that someone broke into the Judge's chamber to steal case files. But, the police have so far found that only two telephone sets were missing from there.

A case in this regard has been registered at the Tis Hazari police post.

Man killed

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A motorcyclist was killed and two pillion riders were injured when their vehicle hit a boulder near Swarn Park on Rohtak Road in West Delhi on Sunday.

The dead was identified as Jitender, a resident of Nangloi.

Bootlegger held

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: An alleged bootlegger was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police from Prashant Vihar in North-West Delhi on Sunday. Over 350 bottles of liquor were seized from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off that a young man would come in a Maruti van from Sonepat in Haryana to deliver an illicit liquor consignment, the police laid a trap at Prashant Vihar and arrested the accused, Jai Kishan.

CDs seized

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A person, who allegedly manufactured and sold video compact discs (VCDs) of blue films, was arrested near Jama Masjid in Central Delhi on Sunday. The police recovered over 3,000 compact discs and 20 writers from his possession

The accused has been identified as Naemuddin.

Gang rape case

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: Ajit Kumar Katiyar, one of the accused in the sensational Delhi University student rape case on May 8, will be produced in the Patiala House courts here on Tuesday following expiry of his police remand. The police have not been able to trace his three other accomplices so far.

Found hanging

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A 46-year-old businessman Sushil allegedly hanged himself at Green Park in South Delhi on Sunday. Initial probe revealed that Sushil was upset over being denied a share in the money his father had got by selling off a property.
