Youth Exchange Programme

NEW DELHI: A delegation of the air and naval wings of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) will participate in a two-week "Youth Exchange Programme'' in Singapore from May 30 to June 12.

The Director-General of NCC, Lt. General M.C. Bhandari, met the delegation members on Monday and exhorted them to give a good account of themselves as young ambassadors of the country.

During the programme, the cadets will participate in activities like camping, weapons firing, flight stimulator exposure and power boat handling. Cadets from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong and the Philippines will also take part in the programme.

Smoking hazards

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Transport Minister, Haroon Yusuf, flagged off an anti-tobacco tableau to create awareness on the hazards of smoking here on Monday, marking the first anniversary of the ban on public smoking.

The campaign is being organised jointly by the Health Care Foundation of India (HCFI), IndusInd Bank, Delhi Medical Association, and Delhi Anti-Tobacco Cell.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Medical Association also unveiled a game, Health Ludo, with anti-tobacco messages to create awareness among children. Releasing the game, the Principal Secretary, Health, S.P. Agarwal, appealed to the younger generation to stay away from smoking.

The HCFI president, K. K. Aggarwal, said the game would be distributed in schools.

Education fair

NEW DELHI: The three-day annual education fair, "Aspirations 2005", ended at Taj Palace Hotel here on Sunday. Organised jointly by the State Bank of India and Arclights Eventz Network Private Limited, the fair offered students a large number of career options, an interaction with representatives of various institutes and information about specialised courses in India and abroad.

Homage to Holy brothers

NEW DELHI: "The Day of Slavonic Script and Culture", an event that centuries ago turned over a new page in the history of the Slavonic civilisation, was celebrated at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) here this past week. The event was jointly organised by RCSC and the Indian Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries and many diplomats, academicians and artists participated in it.

In a fitting homage to the Holy brothers - Cyril and Methodius - Dragovest Goranov, Bulgaria's Ambassador to India, said they not only created the Slav letters but also became the first teachers and translators of the Slav world during the 9th Century.
