IN REMEMBRANCE: Prominent citizens of Vijayawada mourning the demise of the secretary of Siddartha Academy, Mummaneni Subba Rao, at a condolence meeting in Vijayawada on Wednesday.
VIJAYAWADA: Academicians, industrialists and political leaders paid tributes to the services rendered by the secretary of the Siddhartha Academy and senior partner in Brahmayya & Co, late Mummaneni Subba Rao, in converting the city of Vijayawada into "Vidyalawada," a hub of education and a `temple of learning.' At a condolence meeting organized at the Siddhartha Auditorium here on Wednesday, the speakers recalled Rao's pioneering and tireless efforts in mobilizing resources for building a landmark chain of educational institutions under the banner of Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education. The president of the Siddhartha Academy, B. Rama Rao, and the current secretary, P.L.N. Prasad, said Rao's contribution to the growth of the institutions was matchless and recalled how he played a pivotal role in establishing the Siddhartha Kalapeetham. The treasurer of Siddhartha Academy, P. Lakshmana Rao, the vice-president, Nalluri Venkateswarlu, other office-bearers and members of the governing body were present. Among those who paid tributes to Rao were industrialist Mullapudi Harishchandra Prasad, former MP and senior Congress leader, Parvataneni Upendra, the Kankipadu MLA, Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru), the TDP urban president, Gadde Rammohan, general secretary, Nagul Meera, the vice-president, Katragadda Babu and veteran film actor Mikkilineni Radhakrishna Murthy.
