KANCHEEPURAM: The Siva Kanchi police have arrested a woman, Rajeshwari (27) of Kancheepuram, based on complaint from a member of the multi-level-marketing (MLM) scheme introduced by her and her husband, Balaganesan.
Judicial custody
A case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against her and the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-I, G. Uthamaraj, remanded her to 15 days' judicial custody on Wednesday. According to T. Karthikeyan, counsel for Rajeshwari, the police was said to have acted upon a complaint filed by Anandan of Vallam village, near Chengalpattu. The complainant had stated that he became a member of the MLM scheme to promote the sale of detergent cakes through International Power Marketing company, floated by Mr. Balaganesan and Ms. Rajeshwari, and had also encashed a `dividend' cheque issued to him by the company. On coming to know that a large number of general public have joined the scheme by remitting Rs. 500 each, he wanted the police to make a thorough enquiry about the scheme and the company before the investors were taken for a ride. Based on his complaint, the police have registered a case and arrested Ms. Rajeshwari, said Mr. Karthikeyan.
