While M. Murali of Sri Krishna Sweets was given the title, Kala Seva Nirata, A.P. Komala, Kalpakam Swaminathan, T. Rukmini and A.V. Unnikrishhan were conferred with the Sangeetha Seva Nirata title.
A. Natarajan, former Director, Doordarshan, said the artistes carried abundant archival value.
Honouring such achievers was a pleasure, he said. M. Saravanan of AVM Productions said the artistes deserved the honour. R, Jeyaraman, secretary of the Samajam, explained the criteria for the honour.
Mr. Murali said the award was a `prasadam' of saint Thiagaraja, while Ms. Komala said she owed her position to the All-India Radio.
