CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has denied anticipatory bail to two engineering students R. Sonia Priyadarshini of Tagore Engineering College and Z. Khader Mohideen of Crescent Engineering College in connection with the Anna University answer sheet scam case.
Plea dismissed
Vacation judge, Justice S. Sardar Zackria Hussain, dismissed their petitions on Wednesday. Ms. Priyadarshini, studying Electronics and Communication, said she got admission by merit and that she had nothing to do with the alleged offence. Maintaining that she had been arraigned as an accused only on suspicion, she said she did not need to resort to tampering of question papers. Also, all the co-accused in the case have been granted bail by the jurisdictional court. A second year engineering student in the Crescent College at Vandalur, Mr. Mohideen said his name did not figure in the first information report, and that the Central Crime Branch police were on the look out for him based on false information about his involvement. Denying that he had committed any offence as alleged by the police, he said his father, a tailor, could not afford to pay any amount to any person for tampering with answer sheets. He said unless he was granted anticipatory bail, his academic prospects would be adversely affected.
