TIRUCHI: The Secretary to the Election Commission of India, K. F. Wilfred, and the Under-Secretary, Varinder Kumar, reviewed the on-going intensive revision of electoral rolls in the city on Thursday. The officials inspected the work on the preparation of draft rolls and also visited some of the residential areas to verify whether the recently concluded door-to-door enumeration was conducted properly. They inspected Vivekanandapuram in Bheema Nagar, North and Middle Swandhar Street, Allimal Street and Thippiranthotti Street and made enquiries with the residents. They visited the Corporation and inspected the data entry work. They also held discussions with the Collector, K.Nanda Kishore, on the progress of the revision process. The District Revenue Officer, Senthil Kumar and other officials were present. Later, in a brief interaction with mediapersons, Mr.Wilfred expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work and stated that the draft rolls would be published as scheduled on June 16. Filing of claims and objections, for inclusions and deletions, would be received after the publication of the draft rolls. Online registration of claims and objections was one of the new measures to be adopted by the Election Commission this time. The draft rolls would also be published in the post-offices and the Postal Department staff would also be involved in carrying out random checks of the revised voters list. Answering a query, Mr.Wilfred said recognised political parties would also be provided with the voter list. Applications in bulk, for inclusions and deletions, would be accepted from political parties provided they fulfilled the norms laid down for it, he added.
