PUDUKOTTAI: Some parts of Pudukottai district have proved vulnerable to gastroenteritis according to a review undertaken by the Health Department officials.Following the review results, the district administration has takensteps to review and monitor water supply schemes. "Top priority has been accorded for supply of protected drinking water on a war-footing," the Collector, R.Thiyagarajan, assured villagers of Kidangivayal near Avudayarkovil, during a mass contact programme.
Urging villagers to express their demands through the Grama Sabha meetings, the Collector said that resolutions adopted at the Sabhas would help the district administration to identify and implement need-based projects.
Mr. Thiyagarajan wanted the farmers to switch over to alternative cropping pattern for improving rural economy. Farmers should cultivate intercrops for attractive returns. Wells should be utilised for harvesting rainwater, he said.
The Collector also disbursed assistance to the tune of Rs.3 lakhs to 233 beneficiaries on the occasion.
He also gave away free house site pattas and land pattas to 94 villagers.
Aranthangi MLA, B. Arasan also took part in the programe.
